Most known for his critically-acclaimed bestsellers, Friday Night Lights and Three Nights in August, Pulitzer Prize-winning author/journalist Buzz Bissinger tells a quite personal story in his new book, Father's Day: A Journey into the Mind & Heart of My Extraordinary Son (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt). "Buzz Bissinger has given completely of himself in this moving book about his son Zach, who was born too small, too soon. There is the father's disappointment and guilt, his confusion and frustration, his wonder and love. That Zach has a twin brother who grew up unscathed, and that Zach's mind is as divided as his father's emotions, make the story all the more compelling. Father's Day is wonderfully, achingly written, with all the doubt that tells you how truthful it is." – Frank Deford.
Start: 7:30 pm
Co-presented with the TOWN HALL CENTER FOR CIVIC LIFE. The former head of ABC News, David Westin looks at the drastically altered landscape where news is covered and reported now in the U.S., particularly with regard to Fox's influence and polemical tendencies in his new book, Exit Interview (Sarah Crichton/Farrar, Straus & Giroux). "Like any good journalist, Westin delivers his feature story with finesse, urgency, and a suggestion of larger themes. Yet Westin, as he often reminds us in this compelling hybrid memoir and business guide, is not a journalist but a lawyer turned corporate manager who joined ABC News in 1997, just in time for a princess' death, an infamous blue dress, and a terrorist attack ... Along the way he addresses issues of bias, patriotism, and national security ... and offers a timely discussion about the future of the media industry itself." – Publishers Weekly. $5 tickets are available at the door starting at 6:30 p.m., or in advance via www.brownpapertickets.com (1-800-838-3006). Town Hall Seattle is at 1119 Eighth Avenue (at Seneca). Preferred seating for Town Hall members.
