Our twice-a-week Children's Storytimes, set for most Tuesday and Saturday mornings each month, commence for June with this morning's reading from picture- and storybook favorites out of our children's section. We're pleased to once again present a school year's-end program featuring young poets and prose writers from three local elementary and middle school writing programs. Participating today are student writers from Sanislo Elementary School, Lake Washington Girls' Middle School, and the Powerful Writers program. Longtime news and broadcast journalist Mike Leury, who covered California state politics out of Sacramento, is also a member of SABR (Society for American Baseball Research), has written a seasonally timely book (baseball and Father's Day) with Baseball Between Us: 16 years, 32 Ballparks, 43,000 Miles: A Road Map to a Winning Father/Son Relationship (Sleuth Publishing). Pulitzer Prize-finalist, cartoonist, independent war journalist, and polemicist Ted Rall returns to Seattle as part of a tour for his new book, The Book of Obama: How We Got from Hope and Change to the Age of Revolt (Seven Stories Press). Here, Ted Rall revisits what he sees as the rapid rise and dizzying fall of Barack Obama as president—and the emergence of the Tea Party and Occupy movements—and draws quite the conclusion: "We the People weren't lied to. We lied to ourselves, both about Obama and the two-party system." Ted Rall is the author of sixteen books, including The Anti-American Manifesto and To Afghanistan and Back: A Graphic Travelogue.
