As the literature of ideas and imagination, Science Fiction and Fantasy simply demands discussion. Our selection for June is How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe by the real Charles Yu. Every day in Minor Universe 31 people get into time machines and try to change the past. That's where Charles Yu, time travel technician, steps in. He helps save people from themselves. Literally. When he's not taking client calls, Yu visits his mother and searches for his father, who invented time travel and then vanished. The key to locating his father may be found in a book. It's called How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe, and somewhere inside it is information that will help him. It may even save his life.

Last-minute addition! Falling into place at virtually the last minute is this very welcome return by popular Italian journalist and author Beppe Severgnini. The author of such delights as Ciao, America! and La Bella Figura: A Field Guide to the Italian Mind, he visits tonight with his most recent, Mamma Mia! Berlousconi's Italy Explained for Posterity & Friends Abroad (Rizzoli). This is a "droll" (New York Times), often amusing, yet at heart insightful portrait of a country that elected such a flamboyant, over-the-top leader to its highest office. (Not that such could ever happen here.) Beppe Severgnini, as one well-traveled in the world, is adept at explaining the world to Italy, and Italy to the rest of the world. From past visits here, we can also say he is a most gracious and entertaining interpreter.
