Co-presented as part of SEATTLE SPIRITUAL SYNTHESIS with SEATTLE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH. Evangelical pastor Rob Bell, recently named one of the most influential Christian leaders in the U.S. by The New Yorker, founded Mars Hill Church in Grandville, Michigan,, and then left the congregation after his nonconformist views on heaven and hell became public with the publication of his bestselling book, Love Wins. He speaks tonight about his new book, What We Talk About When We Talk About God (HarperOne), a book in which he takes on what he sees as reluctance on the part of the church (and greater society) to talk about God, and also common misconceptions about God. Free/no tickets necessary. Seattle First Baptist Church is at 1111 Harvard Avenue (at Seneca).

Writer and internationally-exhibited photographer Christa Parravani has written a compelling memoir, one that stands out in a time when many are being written and published. Her: A Memoir (Henry Holt) is the story of her and her identical twin, Cara, and what happens after Cara's downward spiral and sudden early death. "Christa Parravini's lyrical, non-nonsense Her ranks with the best American memoirs of the decade. This incandescent story of loving and losing one's twin is an uncompromising love poem to the joys and dangers of shared identity and an unforgettable treatise on addiction, trauma, survival, and triumph." - Jayne Anne Phillips. " ... Christa Parravani carries us with her into the excavation of what it means to be a survivor, a lost twin, and a woman digging herself out of her sister's loss. That she comes out the other side is never predictable—merely miraculous." - Dorothy Allison.
