ELLIOTT BAY GLOBAL ISSUES & ETHICS BOOK GROUP Tuesday, August 12 at 6:30 p.m.
Our Global Issues & Ethics Book Group is devoted to discussing books that cover the most relevant topics of our everyday lives. Our selection is Paul Hawken's Blessed Unrest: How the Largest Social Movement in History is Restoring Grace, Justice, and Beauty to the World.
Environmentalist Paul Hawken turns his eye to groups around the world such as neighborhood associations to International organizations that are tackling issues of the environment, social justice, free-market abuses and loss of indigenous cultures. All this without a unifying ideology or leader. This should be an inspiring and optimistic (all too rare) look at what is being done and what needs to be done. Barry Lopez said of Blessed Unrest, "If you have lost a sense of direction in your life, if despair dogs your every step, pick up a pencil and pick up this book. In [Hawken's] hands the civil society movement reveals itself as the action that has replaced the talk."
