A poet and translator with strong Seattle ties who presently lives in Berlin, Donna Stonecipher makes this welcome return to Seattle and Elliott Bay this evening. Author of three poetry collectionsThe Reservoir, Souvenir de Constantinople, and The Cosmopolitanshe is here with her translation from the German of Swiss writer Ludwig Hohl's novella, Ascent (Black Square Editions). Ludwig Hohl (1904-1980) lived most of his life in obscurity, receiving recognition in his last years, including the Robert Walser Centenary Prize. Ascent has two very different men setting out to climb a mountain with a fateful outcome. "Hohl is a great discovery, an unjustly neglected author." - Susan Bernofsky.
